When You’re Greatly Distressed – A Prayer for Strength

Light for Today:

What do you pray when your soul feels crushed?

“And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul… But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” (1 Samuel 30:6 ESV)

James—Charlie’s friend—was overwhelmed. His team turned against him after a failed project, and the weight of responsibility crushed his spirit. That night, he read from Everyone’s a Theologian and was struck by this truth: “The Lord is our strength—not our performance.” Suddenly, 1 Samuel 30:6 felt like a mirror. David was surrounded by angry men, yet he didn’t crumble. He turned inward—and upward—strengthening himself in the Lord.

When pressure surrounds you, you don’t have to crumble. Like David, you can find supernatural strength—not from applause or success, but in the unshakable presence of God. You’re not alone. Strength is already available. All you have to do… is reach for it.

Prayer:
Lord, like David, I come greatly distressed. Strengthen me in You, not in people or outcomes. You are my peace, and I will not be shaken. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
