Light for Today:
Are you trying to earn something God already gave you for free?

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” — Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV)

Ephesians 2:8–9 is a powerful reminder that salvation isn’t something we earn—it’s a gift from God. Grace means unmerited favor; it’s God reaching out to save us, not because we’re good enough, but because He is. Faith is simply trusting in Jesus—believing that His death and resurrection are enough to cover our sin and secure our place with God. It’s not about effort, performance, or spiritual résumé. It’s about surrender.

Because salvation is a gift, there’s no room for pride. We don’t climb our way to God; He came down to us. This truth sets us free from the exhausting cycle of trying to be “good enough” and leads us into peace and joyful dependence on Christ.

Take Marcus, for example. After years of religious striving and failure, he encountered this truth. When he understood that salvation was a gift, not a paycheck, his life changed. He stopped performing for approval and started living from acceptance. Grace became his anchor, and faith gave him rest.

This is the invitation: stop striving—start trusting. God’s gift is yours today.
